About Learn Through Play
Please read my story of how I developed Learn Through Play Fabric Flash cards. I'm an Early Childhood Educator, with 40 years experience working with children in Private and Public Nursery Schools and Kindergarten. I have a B.A. in Early Education, K-8 Elementary Certification, and K-12 English Certificaton. In addition, I completed a HighScope Lead Teacher Certification in 1998.
Happily, I became a mother in 2000 to a son, then again with twins, boy and girl in 2002, and another baby girl in 2011.
Furthermore in 2014, I returned to the classroom and have taught 5th-grade Language Arts for the past 12 years at Terence C. Reilly School No. 7 in Elizabeth, NJ.
The beginning started more than 20 years ago, while sitting in my twins' bedroom, trying to organize their clothing drawers and keep them entertained, which any mother knows the difficultly of a simple task. The twins were a year old, and my older son was almost 3 years old. Needless to say, I was outnumbered and overwhelmed. Frustrated because the children were surrounded by store-bought toys, but all they wanted was the wipe container! Therefore, I would place it up high out of their reach. However, my young son climbed up the changing table to reach the box. So, as an Early Childhood Teacher, appreciating organic discovery, I observed him and he contentedly pull all the wipes out of the box. He was happy, engaged, and occupied. His sister, came to join him in his play. However, the mess was wasteful with white wipes spread out on the floor. On that particular day, my husband popped in and said, "You let him do that? What a waste!" It was that day, after viewing the white blank wipes on the floor, that I said to myself, "I need to make this fun and not wasteful." Well, I've finally accomplished that, and I can proudly say that Learn Through Play Fabric Flashcards are mother-, teacher-, and grandmother-approved!
